DescriptionCoat of arms. Escutcheon: Quarterly, quarters 1 and 4, argent (silver) two bars sable (black) each charged with three martlets or (gold), a crescent for difference, for Temple; quarters 2 and 3, vert (green) on a chevron embattled erminois between three hedgehogs or, as many bombs sable fired proper, on a chief of augmentation the gates and fortress of Seringapatam all proper, for Harris. Crests: (1) On a ducal coronet a martlet or, charged with a crescent for difference, for Temple; (2) on a mural crown or, a royal tiger passant guardant vert, striped or spotted gold, pierced in the breast with an arrow..., vulned gules (red)... and crowned with an Eastern coronet... for Harris. Motto: Templa quam dilecta. (cf. Burke)
