DescriptionReproduced photo of the Ninian W. Edwards Home, Springfield, IL. Taken directly from front. House has two distinct sections and two low wings on either section. Left section has wing, deep porch, double windows, mansard roof, and vertical board door. Right section is set up from left, arch fanlight over door on left, bracketed style (also on left). Snow on ground, two small trees in front, two windsor arch back rockers on right porch. L 8" x W 10".
InterpretationNinian W. Edwards was a prominent member of Springfield society. He married Elizabeth Todd, sister to Mary Todd, the future wife of Abraham Lincoln. The Edwards Home was torn down in the early 1900's, to make room for the Centennial Building, a state government office now called the Howlett Building. The current state capitol building is next door.
