Candle with reflector
Resource Typeimage
TitleCandle with reflector
Coverage / Year1800 to 1850
DescriptionA pewter candlestick with a cone shaped reflector mounted perpendicular to the stick. Above the reflector is a cylindrical vent for the heat.
InterpretationCandlesticks like these were concurrent with all sorts of fuel oil lamps including whale oil and camphene. This candlestick bears a striking resemblance to 68.1.1125, a whale oil lamp in its pewter construction and its use of a reflector.
